Burkina Faso: Over 9 billion CFA francs to boost digital development and infrastructure projects by 2026

The Burkinabe government is committing over 9 billion CFA francs to accelerate structural projects in 2026 a decision that reflects the authorities’ determination to make digital technology a key driver of national development under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

This massive investment, released as part of the implementation of roadmap of the government, aims to equip Burkina Faso with the infrastructure and skills needed to succeed in its digital transition and strengthen its sovereignty in an increasingly connected world.

The projects funded by this envelope were selected for their strategic nature and their potential impact on the national economy and the daily lives of the people.

At the heart of this initiative is the implementation of specific projects deemed strategic for the country’s digital future, among which the “Elites IT” program holds a prominent place.

This ambitious program is designed to train a critical mass of national talent capable of driving technological innovation, developing solutions tailored to local realities, and supporting Burkina Faso’s digital sovereignty in the face of global tech giants.

The young graduates who benefit from this excellence-focused training will become ambassadors of Burkinabe expertise in the fields of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, software development, and network administration.

The strengthening of national data centers is also a major focus of these investments, as data control has become an issue of sovereignty just as important as territorial control.

The reinforced data centers will also host government applications and platforms, reducing Burkina Faso’s dependence on foreign providers and ensuring the continuity of public services under all circumstances.
