DRC/Crisis in the East: The apostolic nuncio calls for a diplomatic solution

Amid the ongoing security challenges in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Catholic Church has reaffirmed its support for President Félix Tshisekedi’s efforts to restore stability. Speaking on behalf of the Vatican, Apostolic Nuncio Mgr. Mitja Leskovar commended the president’s diplomatic strides on the international stage.

Mgr. Leskovar emphasized that true and lasting peace cannot be achieved through force, weapons, or terror, but rather through sincere dialogue and mutual understanding.

He underscored the importance of bringing stakeholders to the negotiation table, with reconciliation and the well-being of affected communities as the ultimate goals.

Aware of the urgency of the situation, President Tshisekedi remains committed to implementing a sustainable solution to restore peace and security in the eastern provinces.

His approach combines diplomatic engagement, targeted military actions against armed groups, and strengthened cooperation with regional and international partners.
