Tunisia qualify for World Cup 2026 with dramatic last-minute winner

Tunisia has become the 18th nation to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, sealing their qualification with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea in stoppage time. Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane scored the decisive goal in the 94th minute, sending the Eagles of Carthage to their seventh World Cup finals.

The North African side finished Group H unbeaten, with seven wins and one draw, and have yet to concede a goal in qualifying.

Their defensive solidity, combined with timely attacking prowess, ensured top spot with 22 points unreachable with two matches remaining.

Tunisia made history in 1978 as the first African team to win a World Cup match, and they will now make a third consecutive appearance on the global stage.

Despite a resilient performance from Equatorial Guinea, who remain in contention for a playoff spot, Tunisia’s experience and composure proved decisive.

The team, managed by Jalel Kadri, celebrated another milestone in a campaign defined by discipline and determination.

They join Morocco as the second African team to qualify for the expanded 2026 tournament.
