Niger / FENIFOOT set to appoint sole candidate after Legal Battle

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed Lieutenant Colonel Ousseïni Kokou’s appeal against his disqualification from the Niger Football Federation (FENIFOOT) presidential election, clearing the path for Issaka Adamou to assume the presidency unopposed.
Kokou, initially barred by FENIFOOT’s electoral committee, saw his hopes dashed after both the federation’s appeals body and CAS rejected his case.
The July 5th election will now proceed as a formality, with Adamou currently third vice-president and the outgoing president Colonel Djibrilla Hima Hamidou’s preferred successor – as the only candidate.
The controversial succession process has raised questions about transparency in Niger’s football governance.
Adamou’s impending coronation continues the military-linked leadership tradition in FENIFOOT, maintaining the status quo amid calls for reform in West African football administration.
