Burkina Faso: 18 billion for modern tolls, a strong signal for road development in a country on the road to emergence

In its pursuit of sustainable development and improved national connectivity, Burkina Faso has reached another important milestone. On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in Boudtenga (Centre Region), the Special Road Fund of Burkina (FSR-B) unveiled an updated toll management decree alongside a major announcement: the imminent opening of three new state-of-the-art toll stations.
These facilities, fully funded by the Burkinabe government to the tune of 18 billion CFA francs, reflect a strong commitment to enhancing road revenue management and maintaining national highways.
This marks a significant step forward in modernizing the country’s road sector a cornerstone of economic and social progress.
The three new toll stations are equipped with cutting-edge technology, including surveillance cameras, automatic barriers, and digital display screens to ensure transparent and efficient traffic management.
These innovations will not only secure toll revenues but also minimize losses due to fraud or mismanagement.
During the press conference, FSR-B officials emphasized the importance of compliance and toll payment by users.
They reiterated that paying toll fees is a civic duty, crucial for financing road maintenance and new infrastructure that benefits all citizens. The message is clear: every citizen plays a role in national development.
The ambitious goal of 50,000 km of roads by 2029 requires substantial funding, and internally mobilized resources such as modern toll systems offer a pragmatic and sovereign solution.
These new toll stations are more than just infrastructure they symbolize a Burkina Faso on the rise, embracing responsible governance and future-oriented investments.
Each step forward strengthens a more connected, competitive, and united nation.
