Burkina Faso:  operation «Kapidougou» to destroy terrorist networks

Captain Ibrahim Traoré has launched an important operation called « Kapidougou » since April 3rd. The President of the Patriotic Movement for Safeguarding and Restoration (MPSR in French) aimed through this operation at regaining control of areas that have fallen into the hands of the enemy.

The operation involves searching forests and abandoned communities.

On Sunday, April 16th, 2023, the Burkinabe national television reported that the nation has mobilized nearly a thousand soldiers and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP in French) in «the Boucle du Mouhoun» region.

Over 800 soldiers and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) are ready to retake localities occupied by terrorist armed groups in the Boucle du Mouhoun region as part of the significant « Kapidougou » operation.

In fact, Kapidougou means “Beehive » in the Mooré national language (spoken by the Mossi people). It is being led by captain Lion of the «Rapid Intervention Battalion».

According to the Burkinabe national television, the objective of these fighters is to combat the terrorist armed groups in the region together with the Malian army. The latter should lead the fight towards the Mali-Burkina Faso border.

Many localities in the Boucle du Mouhoun region have been under terrorist control for months or even years.

Although some localities like Solenzo, Gassan, and others have been retaken, we still notice some marks of terrorist groups.

That’s why the « Kapidougou » operation is a great initiative that the Burkinabe authorities have taken   to combat this issue.

Therefore, Captain « Lion » announced on the Burkinabe national television last Sunday that three lookouts who wanted to report on the mobilized means to their accomplices had been neutralized.

He also specified that the extensive search primarily targets the attackers of the terrorist group known as the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (GSIM) and their offshoots.
