Led by the Burkinabe Minister of Territorial Administration, Decentralization, and Security, Colonel Boukaré Zoungrana, the mission carried a message from Captain Ibrahim Traoré to his Togolese counterpart.

Togo and Burkina Faso are facing similar security challenges, characterized by jihadist attacks at their common borders.

Terrorist groups are trying to establish themselves in the area and are carrying out attacks against the armed forces and civilian populations of both countries.

Recently, the two neighboring countries have been pooling their efforts to take the terrorists by surprise and liberate the besieged territories. The terrorists had previously believed that they were in control of the region.

According to information published by the Togolese Presidency regarding the visit, « The presence of the Burkinabe delegation in Pya also aimed to discuss with the head of state the security situation in the common border areas».

The ministerial delegation also conveyed, according to the African tradition, a message of condolences and solidarity from the Burkinabe transitional President, Captain Traoré, to the Togolese head of state and the Gnassingbé family.

Indeed, the Gnassingbé family is in mourning; they have lost Yvonne Gnassingbé.

Faure Gnassingbé’s sister passed away at the end of February. The funeral ceremonies have been taking place since the beginning of the week in Pya, near Kara (a locality located 420 km from Lomé, the capital).
