Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré takes concrete action to transform the country in record time

In less than two years since taking office, President Ibrahim Traoré has achieved remarkable progress in Burkina Faso, surpassing what previous administrations struggled to accomplish over a decade. Before his rise to power, the country was mired in severe insecurity, with over 13,000 deaths recorded between 2016 and 2022.

Large areas were inaccessible, the security forces were under-equipped, and weekly terrorist attacks had become the norm.

However, since Captain Trae assumed leadership, he has overhauled the military, acquired modern equipment, and intensified the training of combat forces.

These efforts have borne fruit; as more than 200,000 internally displaced people were able to return to their villages by the end of August 2023.

On the international stage, President Traoré has strengthened Burkina Faso’s diplomatic presence through strategic alliances, notably the Sahel States Alliance (AES) formed with Mali and Niger.

The country has also established partnerships with Russia, Iran, and Turkey to secure military supplies, while severing colonial-era agreements with France in a move to assert its sovereignty.

Economically, the government has launched several ambitious projects aimed at revitalizing the country’s economy. Programs focused on social entrepreneurship have opened up opportunities in agriculture and local product processing.

Industrial infrastructure projects, such as the construction of a tomato processing plant and gold refineries, have been instrumental in spurring economic recovery despite ongoing challenges.

In the social sector, President Ibrahim Traoré has initiated reforms to modernize healthcare infrastructure, making medical services more accessible by reducing costs and introducing mobile clinics.

Additionally, he has overseen the construction of schools, roads, and administrative buildings, while taking a firm stance against corruption and absenteeism in the public sector.

Under Traoré’s leadership, Burkina Faso is witnessing a dynamic transformation, with significant strides being made in security, diplomacy, the economy, and social development.
