South Sudan: President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the man who is rebuilding the country from the ashes
Since independence, South Sudan has faced cycles of violence and development challenges. At the helm of the state, President Salva Kiir Mayardit is multiplying initiatives aimed at consolidating peace and laying the first stones of the infrastructural recovery necessary for any sustainable revival. His actions, often criticized but also hailed by segments of society, reflect a determination to transform the transition from conflict into an impetus for national reconstruction.
On the front of national reconciliation, President Salva Kiir Mayardit does not intend to stop halfway.
He is personally following stabilization efforts in sensitive regions such as Upper Nile State, where the governor has presented progress made in implementing presidential directives aimed at restoring peace, with a gradual return of trust within local communities.
This direct involvement of the Head of State in monitoring local peace processes reflects a genuine political will to leave no region on the margins of national reconciliation.
On the infrastructure front, concrete actions are multiplying. President Salva Kiir inaugurated a new air traffic management system in Juba, marking a major step in the autonomous control of national airspace.
The system includes six radars three primary and three secondary making it one of the most advanced in the region.
Over 80 South Sudanese personnel have been trained to operate and maintain this strategic infrastructure, reflecting a vision geared toward technological sovereignty.
In the telecommunications sector, the President has instructed the National Communications Authority to accelerate reforms and modernize 4G infrastructure, in order to improve connectivity and strengthen the cybersecurity capabilities of the country.
That underscores the importance of a high‑performing digital sector for governance and national development.
The cultural dimension of nation‑building has not been forgotten. The head of state received the strategic plan for the modernization of national museums and the preservation of cultural heritage, recalling his directives to foster peace and unity among the country’s 64 tribes.
On the regional stage, finally, his state visit to Ethiopia allowed for exploring avenues of cooperation in the sectors of infrastructure, trade, oil, and transport, with a view to strengthening economic integration.
Brick by brick, President Salva Kiir Mayardit is building the South Sudan of tomorrow a peaceful, connected, and sovereign state.
