Burkina Faso: Local development, 2 hectares developed to empower women in Dori
As part of the commemoration of Women’s Month 2026, a vast fully developed market gardening site has been handed over to the women of Dori, the capital of the Liptako region. Covering an area of two hectares, this enclosed site is equipped with a 10 cubic meter water tower supplying fourteen basins, thus offering optimal conditions for market gardening and the development of income-generating activities.
This achievement is part of a national dynamic aimed at strengthening the economic empowerment of women across the country.
Following an initial initiative launched last year in the village of Zongo in Loumbila, the program for developing agricultural areas for the benefit of women is now being deployed in several regions of Burkina Faso.
For this 2026 edition, six regions are beneficiaries of these infrastructures, with the stated desire to progressively extend the system to the entire territory.
The Liptako region, facing particular security and climatic challenges, sees in this achievement a major opportunity for its female populations.
The site will allow local women to practice agricultural activities in safe and sustainable conditions, far from the constraints linked to access to water and the protection of crops.
Local authorities have expressed their gratitude for this gift to the women of Dori, while making a commitment to provide quality technical support.
Specific training will be given to beneficiaries to ensure optimal use of the site and maximize economic returns for the communities.
For the women of the region, this area represents much more than a simple cultivation space. It is a development tool that will boost local economies and contribute to their personal and collective fulfillment. By giving them the means to produce and generate income, a whole dynamic of resilience and empowerment is strengthened.
This initiative illustrates the desire to place women at the heart of development strategies, by offering them adapted infrastructures that allow them to express themselves fully and act concretely in building a better future for their families and their communities.
