Togo/Local Economy : A new modern market for the population of Pagouda

In Togo, traders in the Binah prefecture, located in the Kara region, expressed their joy at the inauguration of a newly built modern market, which alleviates their challenges regarding space and provides a comfortable environment for their commercial activities, sheltered from the elements.

This achievement is part of the Support Program for Vulnerable Populations (PAPV) and aligns with the Togolese government’s commitment to improving the working environment for traders and boosting the local economy, according to the project initiators.

Furthermore, this facility will contribute to enhancing food and personal hygiene by providing access to clean water, stated Katanga Mazalo, Director-General of the National Agency for Support to Grassroots Development (ANADEB), the body responsible for implementing the Community Infrastructure Microprojects Support Program (PSMICO).

Financed to the tune of 286 million CFA francs, this commercial infrastructure is built on a two-hectare area and includes prefectoral and cantonal-style market stalls, storage units, administrative blocks, shelters for poultry and livestock, as well as related facilities (solar-powered boreholes, waste disposal sites, etc.).

It is worth noting that, within the framework of the Community Infrastructure Microprojects Support Program, several market structures meeting the required standards have been built across Togo, demonstrating the government’s commitment to providing necessary socio-economic infrastructure to grassroots communities.
