Africa : Burkina Faso honors its Academic Heroes, new names for public universities

Under the presidency of Captain Ibrahim Traoré the Head of State of Burkina Faso, the Council of Ministers made a significant decision by adopting a decree to modify the names of the public universities in Fada N’Gourma, Ouahigouya, and Dédougou.

Henceforth, these institutions will bear the names of illustrious Burkinabe personalities, chosen for their inspiration and remarkable contribution to society. This decision transcends local boundaries to embrace the entire nation.

Thus, the University of Fada N’Gourma is renamed « University Yembila-Abdoulaye-TOGUYENI », in homage to this prominent figure who dedicated his life to education and the progress of his community. Similarly, the University of Ouahigouya will be known as « University Lédéa-Bernard-OUEDRAOGO », in recognition of its exceptional achievements in research and education.

Finally, the University of Dédougou is designated as « University Daniel-Ouezzin-COULIBALY », in honor of this distinguished scholar whose contributions have left a mark on the country’s intellectual history.

These new designations symbolize not only respect and admiration for these inspiring personalities but also a commitment to academic excellence and socio-economic development in Burkina Faso.

They embody a strong link between the glorious past of these eminent figures and the promising future of future generations, both locally and nationally. By honoring these legacies, Burkina Faso reinforces its national identity and commitment to the values of knowledge, progress, and solidarity.
