Africa : DRC leaves the Francophonie, a historic decision in the echo of deception

The lack of a clear stance from the Francophonie on the crisis in the eastern part of DRC has deeply disappointed Congolese authorities, who were expecting strong support from this international organization.

This disappointment has sparked a sense of betrayal within the government, which had hoped that the Francophonie would take a firm stand against human rights violations and acts of violence perpetrated in the region.

In the absence of such a reaction, many Congolese are questioning the usefulness of maintaining ties with an organization that seems indifferent to their suffering. The Congolese government sees the potential withdrawal from the Francophonie as an opportunity to reaffirm its sovereignty and political independence while expressing its discontent with the organization’s lack of solidarity.

Furthermore, the potential withdrawal of DRC from the Francophonie could influence other member countries to reevaluate their own membership in the organization, thus questioning its effectiveness and legitimacy.

This situation raises significant issues regarding the future of the Francophonie as an international organization and its role in promoting peace, democracy, and human rights in member countries.

This year, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has decided not to officially participate in the activities of the International Francophonie Day, celebrated on March 20. This decision marks a symbolic break and underscores the country’s dissatisfaction with the Francophonie’s lack of support during its moments of crisis.
