NIGER : Triumphant reelection of vladimir putin/ General Tiani extends his congratulations to his russian counterpart

On Monday, March 18, 2024, General Abdourahamane Tiani sent a letter of congratulations to Vladimir Putin, praising him for his « brilliant reelection » as the head of Russia following the Sunday, March 17, 2024, election. Indeed, Putin won by a landslide, securing a fifth term in the presidential election with almost 88% of the votes.

In his note, the new strongman of Niger commended his counterpart’s efforts in maintaining stability in Russia. Tiani emphasized the paramount importance of Putin’s reelection, highlighting the complete trust of the Russian people in their leader, their endorsement of Putin’s governance program, and their ambition to advance Russia in various domains.

Furthermore, the leader of the junta in power in Niamey expressed confidence in Putin’s leadership to continue advancing his country along this trajectory.

Additionally, the President of the transitional government in Niger, General Abdourahamane Tiani, expressed his country’s willingness to maintain and strengthen cooperation with the Russian Federation.

It is worth noting that the closer ties between the two countries have accelerated in recent months, following the establishment of the CNSP after the coup d’état on July 26.

In their effort to intensify and more effectively combat terrorism, which has plagued Niger for over a decade, the transitional authorities in Niamey have opted to diversify their partners by revoking agreements with traditional partners that proved harmful.

In this dynamic, the Sahelian country has approached certain countries such as Iran and Russia, with whom security cooperation is robust.

Furthermore, General Tiani, in his letter, congratulated the reelected President for his support in Niger’s « historic struggle » for « regaining its sovereignty and development ».
