Togo : President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, champion of women’s empowerment

President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé has made the promotion of Togolese women his main focus since taking office. Promoting women includes efforts to educate young girls, ensure social inclusion and empowerment of women, and address gender equity issues.

The Togolese government has placed great importance on achieving these objectives, evident through its policies, state-led reforms, and projects supported by government partners, all aimed at placing Togolese women at the heart of the nation’s development.

Today, the involvement of Togolese women in key decision-making bodies across the country reflects their role as agents of development. From the prime minister’s office to the National Assembly and various key ministries, Togolese women participate in the political, economic, and social governance of Togo, even at the highest levels of government.

At the grassroots level, thousands of women contribute to Togo’s development through financial inclusion and representation in public life, initiatives championed by Faure Essozimna .

The government has implemented various measures to further strengthen this policy, including updates to penal and land codes in favor of women, gender equity policies, the National Inclusive Finance Fund (FNFI), the Support Project for Youth Employability and Insertion in Promising Sectors, and many others.

These initiatives have fostered women’s autonomy and accelerated entrepreneurship in the country, thus contributing to community development and ultimately, Togo’s economic growth. In essence, the promotion of women aligns with the advancement of the national economy and the development of the nation as a whole.
