President of the Transition Assimi Goita received New Year’s greetings for 2024 from the High Court of Communication (HCC), the Press House, and the National Committee for Equal Access to State Media (CNEAME) on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

During the occasion, the Head of State delivered a speech highlighting the crucial issues related to the media, democracy, and national stability. President Goïta emphasized the importance of press freedom in building a fair and equitable society, while encouraging the media to understand and integrate the socio-political, economic, and geopolitical issues of Mali.

In addition to government members, several representatives from both public and private media outlets, as well as regulatory bodies, were present at the meeting with the Transition President.

Each, in their capacity, extended their best wishes to the Transition President, his family, and his colleagues. They then reviewed their activities over the past year, while also addressing the specific difficulties and concerns related to their operations.

The ceremony also provided an opportunity for the President’s guests to acknowledge progress made in political and institutional reforms, as well as in securing the national territory, the establishment of the Alliance of Sahel States, and the withdrawal of its member states from ECOWAS.

President Assimi Goita, in turn, expressed his best wishes for the new year to all present and their families. He also praised the commitment and dedication of media professionals and regulatory authorities, particularly during the referendum campaign for the adoption of the new Constitution in July 2023. He underscored the role of the media in disseminating an authentic version of the country’s history and called for solidarity against arbitrary attacks directed at Mali.

Regarding the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) and the decision of its member states to withdraw from ECOWAS, he emphasized that hopes are pinned on this alliance to promote peace, security, and regional development.
