Niger : Nearly 2000 Explosives seized from two individuals on motorcycles
The joint patrol in Boboye, in the Dosso region located in southwest Niger, led to the seizure of 1980 explosives devices from two individuals each traveling on a motorcycle, announced the governor of the Dosso region this Monday.
« Under the orders of the commander of the national guard, Harouna Dalimane, the patrol seized on Sunday, February 25th in Fabidji (Boboye) around 6 p.m., from two individuals on two motorcycles, a significant quantity of ammunition consisting of 1.980 explosive sticks ». Reports the Nigerien Press Agency.
According to the source, these two individuals were heading to Niamey with these explosives when they were intercepted. One of them managed to escape.
This significant quantity of ammunition was presented this Monday, February 26th, to the governor of the Dosso region, Brigadier General Iro Oumarou, surrounded by his close collaborators.
The governor of the Dosso region took the opportunity to recall the various seizures of narcotics, including one two weeks ago of 100 kg of drugs worth 28 million francs.
The governor lamented that in addition to drug trafficking, bandits are beginning to circulate ammunition, which they often place in cans to make it appear as if it were fuel.
« The present seizure of explosives en route to Niamey » he said, « is clear evidence of this. Only God knows how many explosives have passed », the governor indicated. « The investigation will continue », he noted. He urged the population to collaborate with the Defense and Security Forces and to be extra vigilant to show the world that this issue is real.
This seizure comes a few days after the discovery of a weapons cache in Niamey. This discovery, which was also the subject of a press briefing by the governor of Niamey, Abdou Assoumane Harouna, on Friday, February 23rd. In his speech, the governor emphasized that Niger’s false friends have not abandoned their destabilization project.
In the face of the security challenges in Niger, vigilance and determination of the Defense and Security Forces, with the collaboration of the population, are necessary to thwart any plot against the country.
