Football : Persistent uncertainty surrounding Salah’s participation in final against Chelsea
Liverpool’s forward Mohamed Salah will only be available for the final of the English League Cup against Chelsea at the last minute, said assistant manager Pep Lijnders on Friday.
Two other key players, forward Darwin Nunez and midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, are in a similar situation due to their respective injuries ahead of Sunday’s match at Wembley Stadium.
« We still have two days – so today’s session and tomorrow’s – and at the last minute, we will check if they can be there », Lijnders said during a press conference.
Salah experienced muscle fatigue and did not play in Liverpool’s victory against Luton midweek. He had injured his hamstring during the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt.
Nunez also missed Wednesday’s match after being substituted at halftime during Liverpool’s 4-1 win at Brentford last Saturday. Szoboszlai, on the other hand, is suffering from a hamstring issue.
