Togo : Faure Gnassingbé’s party holds congress to decide on its statutes and nominate candidates for the next elections

The electoral process in Togo continues according to the electoral calendar established by the government of Faure Gnassingbé. On April 13th, the electoral body is convened to elect its deputies and regional counselors.

In total, 179 regional counselors will be elected, including 49 for the Maritime Region, 43 for the Plateaux Region, 25 for the Central Region, 31 for Kara, and 31 for the Savanes Region.

In the same electoral process, the ruling party, Union for the Republic (UNIR), will hold its statutory congress on February 26th in Kara. Two significant moments will mark this congress.

Firstly, there will be a review of the party’s governing texts, and secondly, the official selection of candidates to represent the party in the upcoming elections.

The stakes are high for President Faure Gnassingbé’s party as it holds a statutory congress, the second of its kind since its creation. It will bring together the executives and members of the UNIR party to better refine the organization of the elections.

During this gathering, the UNIR party will nominate its candidates for the electoral battle. In other parts of the country, party executives are mobilizing the population for the upcoming electoral event.
