Togo : Prime Minister advocates for climate emergency for sustainable growth at 37th AU session
The Prime Minister of Togo, Victoire Tomegah-Dogbe, took part last weekend in the 37th extraordinary session of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa.
Education, crises on the continent, and the designation of a new incumbent president of the Union were the topics at the heart of the discussions. The talks also focused on the implementation of the AU’s Agenda 2063 and the continent’s position on the international stage.
On behalf of the Togolese Republic’s President, HE Faure Gnassingbé, the Prime Minister participated in a parallel event on Africa’s wealth. In the presence of the heads of state of Congo, Rwanda, and the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Victoire Tomegah-Dogbe emphasized the climate emergency and advocated for the exploitation of natural resources for sustainable and inclusive growth. She declared, « This important conversation reminds us of the climate emergency and provides an opportunity for our continent to harness our natural resources for sustainable and inclusive growth ».
At the end of the session, the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, was designated by his peers as the incumbent President of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the pan-African organization for a one-year term. He thus succeeds the President of the Union of Comoros, Azali Assoumani.
