Togo : President Faure Gnassingbé propels his country as permanent observer within the OAS
In a determined approach aimed at strengthening its position on the international diplomatic stage, President Faure Gnassingbé orchestrated Togo’s integration as a permanent observer within the Organization of American States (OAS).
This membership marks a significant turning point in the country’s foreign policy, demonstrating its commitment to multilateral cooperation and diversification of its partnerships.
The officialization of this integration took place in Washington DC, United States, during a solemn ceremony for the presentation of credentials. Togo’s ambassador, Frédéric Edem Hegbe, thus sealed this historic agreement in the presence of the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro.
This meeting was an opportunity for the ambassador to present Togo’s ambitions, in line with its roadmap and potentials, while emphasizing its commitment to peace, security, and the fight against terrorism, values shared with the Organization.
Founded in 1948, the Organization of American States brings together the majority of the governments of the Americas and engages in various programs aimed at reducing poverty, improving education, strengthening public health, promoting trade and investment, as well as resolving conflicts.
For Togo, this membership opens up new cooperation perspectives, offering an additional platform to explore development opportunities and partnerships with the member states of the organization.
