Togo : The Government commits to expanding access to energy for all

Ensuring universal access to energy is a vital objective for promoting sustainable development and improving the living conditions of the population. The Togolese government has committed to addressing the challenge of extending this network to the most remote or marginalized populations during the new year.

To materialize this commitment, The Togolese government plans to invest 57 billion FCFA in the energy sector for the year 2024, representing 98% of the annual budget of 58 billion FCFA allocated to the delegated ministry responsible for energy and mines.

These investments primarily aim to continue initiatives already underway, such as the CIZO initiative, the electrification project of 317 localities, and the Tinga Fund, which aims to facilitate access to electricity for households. Some of these funds will also be dedicated to expanding the Blitta solar power plant in the central region of Togo and commencing construction work on the Sokodé photovoltaic power plant.

The Blitta solar power plant, inaugurated in June 2021 by the Head of State, H.E.M Faure Gnassingbé, demonstrates that Togo can responsibly harness its natural resources by providing clean and reliable energy to the population.

This infrastructure has already achieved an annual production of nearly 83.000 MWh in 2022, surpassing the forecast of 82.000 MWh. Moreover, most of the work was carried out by Togolese companies, demonstrating their expertise in this field. The Togolese government’s ambition is to achieve universal electrification by 2030.
