Hossam Hassan is the new coach of Egypt

Egypt’s Hossam Hassan was named coach of Egypt’s national team on Tuesday after Portugal’s Rui Vitoria left on Sunday.

The Egyptian Football Federation (EFA) on Tuesday formalized the appointment of Hossam Hassan as head coach of Egypt, the third in two years, thus succeeding Portuguese Rui Vitoria.

The former Pharaons’ iconic striker (178 caps, 69 goals) has been coaching since 2008. After leading Zamalek, FC Pyramids and Al-Masry, he recently returned to the Egyptian championship after eight months of unemployment.

Indeed, the 57-year-old technician was appointed to the bench of Modern Future, the current 11th in the Egyptian Premier League, which separated from Portuguese Ricardo Formosinho on January 26. He joined the team without having directed a single match with the Cairote club. He will be accompanied by his twin brother Ibrahim Hassan, who will assist him.

This will be his second experience on the selection bench after Jordan between 2013 and 2014. Qualifying for the Asian Cup remains his main achievement with the Jordanians, which he failed to raise in the final phase of the 2014 World Cup.

After the fiasco experienced by the last local coach, Ehab Galal, between April and June 2022, the Pharaons hope this time to have more success.
