Togo : President Faure Gnassingbé honors the memory of the late President Gnassingbé Eyadema during an ecumenical ceremony
Today, President Faure Gnassingbé participated in a solemn ceremony at the Palais des Congrès in Kara, commemorating the 19th anniversary of the passing of his father, the late President Gnassingbé Eyadema.
The event brought together an impressive number of national and international dignitaries, testifying to the historical significance of this iconic figure for Togo and Africa as a whole. Among the distinguished guests were former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and Nicéphore Soglo, former President of Benin. Former Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Lassina Zerbo, was also present to pay tribute to the late President.
The celebration was preceded the day before by a moving vigil held at the late President’s residence in Pya, his hometown.
