The Togolese Minister of Foreign Affairs visited Niamey to discuss the transition in Niger

The Togolese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Robert Dussey, visited Niamey on December 14 for a working visit. This visit comes shortly after the ECOWAS Heads of State summit, during which new decisions were made regarding the political transition in Niger.

Robert Dussey met with the Nigerien Prime Minister, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, and during the discussions, both parties addressed issues related to the content and duration of the political transition in Niger. The Togolese minister described the working session as « very enriching » and stated that the agreed-upon details would be presented to the ECOWAS mediating Heads of State and the ECOWAS Commission. He expressed hope that the transition timeline would be established in January following the ongoing discussions.

Another visit by the Togolese Minister of Foreign Affairs is planned for early next year. It is worth noting that following the ECOWAS summit in Abuja, a committee of Heads of State was established to engage in dialogue with the CNSP (National Council for the Safeguard of the Nation) and other relevant stakeholders in Niger.
