Senegal: The chance for Ousmane Sonko to participate in the 2024 Presidential election is drying up day by day
The prospect of the presidential election of February 25, 2024 is further away for the leader of the ex-Pastef, Ousmane Sonko. The Supreme Court has just rejected his request for a judgment flap, putting an end to his hopes of redress in this case.
The motion was dismissed by the Supreme Court, which cited, among other reasons, that «the judgment in combined chambers is not comfortable with such a procedure». This decision further complicates the situation for Ousmane Sonko, who had filed this motion following the absence of one of the members of the composition of the Administrative Chamber of the Supreme Court on Friday, November 17.
The lawyers of Ousmane Sonko had used this absence among other reasons to file a judgment flap, seeking a review of the previous decision. However, the Supreme Court rejected this attempt.
This decision leaves little recourse to Ousmane Sonko in his quest to participate in the presidential election, marking a critical turning point in the Senegalese political landscape. The electoral campaign continues, but for the moment, the participation of the ex-Pastef in the Presidential election seems increasingly uncertain.
Also, let’s remember that the Caisse des Dépôts et des Consignations (CDC) returned the check of 30 million CFA francs deposited by Ayib Daffé on November 30th as a deposit for presidential candidate Ousmane Sonko for the 2024 elections. However, Sonko’s camp admits to not having received the returned check.
