Niger/Terrorism: The nigerien army soon on top for a more effective and intense fight
With the support of Russia, the transitional authorities in Niger are determined to transform their national army into a major military power, to combat terrorism, regain control of the entire territory, and uphold the dignity of the Nigerien people. The military cooperation between Niger and the Russian Federation attests to this commitment.
This cooperation is manifested through concrete actions aimed at strengthening the logistical capacity and skills of the Nigerien military forces. Information from Nigerien authorities reports the arrival in Niamey of additional military equipment and Russian instructors for the training of Nigerien soldiers.
This marks the third cargo flight from Russia carrying military equipment that landed in the Nigerien capital on Saturday, May 4, 2024. To recall, a first batch of military equipment and Russian instructors had arrived in Niamey at the beginning of April. This batch included an anti-aircraft defense system, intended to enable Niger to control its airspace against any external threats.
According to reports, this military assistance is part of bilateral cooperation agreements concluded between the two countries, aimed at strengthening Niger’s defense and security in the face of the complex security challenges it currently faces. Russia has already demonstrated its military cooperation prowess with the other two countries in the Sahel region (Burkina Faso and Mali).
This strategic partnership is an important means for Niger to enhance the firepower of its army and effectively confront bush enemies. This gesture, coupled with food support, also strengthens the bonds of friendship and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
