Chaos at Paris 2024: Morocco’s dramatic Victory over Argentina marred by pitch invasion

The opening day of the Paris 2024 Olympics was notably disrupted by a dramatic football match between Morocco and Argentina in Saint-Étienne.

The match was halted for nearly two hours following an incident where Moroccan supporters stormed the pitch after Argentina scored a controversial equalizer in the 16th minute of added time, bringing the score to 2-2.

The interruption was marked by the throwing of bottles and a firecracker explosion near the Argentine bench, prompting the referee to send players to the locker rooms without officially ending the game.

During the interruption, stadium announcements directed the remaining spectators to leave, allowing the match to continue behind closed doors.

After extensive security checks, players returned to the field, and the referee, assisted by VAR, disallowed Argentina’s second goal.

The game resumed briefly and concluded with Morocco securing a 2-1 victory.

Paris 2024 and FIFA issued statements, noting that they are investigating the incident and coordinating with all parties involved to address the situation.
