Kevin Mayer’s Olympic hopes in Jeopardy after significant hamstring injury

Kevin Mayer, the French decathlete, suffered a significant hamstring injury, as revealed in a statement from his team on July 8.

The injury occurred during the Paris meet and casts doubt on his participation in the 2024 Olympic Games, scheduled for August 2-3.

An MRI scan showed the extent of the injury, making the next few weeks crucial in determining if he can compete.

His medical team has quickly initiated a treatment plan, including physiotherapy sessions and hyperbaric chamber therapy, to which Mayer is responding well.

Despite the challenging situation, Mayer remains determined to compete in his fourth Olympic Games, having secured his qualification at the European Championships in Rome.

A double Olympic silver medalist from the 2016 Rio and 2021 Tokyo Games, he is aiming for gold in Paris.

At 32 years old, he is seen as a strong medal contender for France and is doing everything possible to recover in time for the competition.
