Togo: The Togolese government at the forefront of the fight against drugs, prioritising prevention

On World Drug Day, the government of  Togo reaffirms its unwavering commitment to protecting its citizens from the devastating impact of drugs.

Under the leadership of Minister of Security and Civil Protection, Calixte Batossie Madjoulba, the primary focus remains on proactive prevention measures.

Since its inception in 1987, this global observance serves as a poignant reminder of the critical need for preventive action.

In 2023, Togo escalated its efforts, particularly through targeted initiatives within educational institutions.

These included comprehensive training programs for educators, enhancing their ability to effectively educate and empower young people.

Minister Calixte Madjoulba emphasizes the pivotal role of parental involvement in prevention, highlighting that engaged parents play a crucial role in shielding their children from the harmful influences of drugs.

In addition to prevention, the Togolese government continues to strengthen enforcement and treatment capacities.

Since 2011, anti-drug units have been strategically deployed at borders and key locations, resulting in the seizure and destruction of over 100 tons of illicit substances in 2023 alone.

With this multifaceted approach, Togo demonstrates proactive leadership in safeguarding the health and security of its citizens in the ongoing battle against drug abuse and trafficking.
