Burkina Faso / Mining Sector : The Government accelerates development efforts
The transitional government of Burkina Faso, under the leadership of President Ibrahim TRAORE, is making every effort to develop the mining sector, which is an essential driver for the country’s economic growth. Several initiatives have been undertaken to support the sector.
Since the beginning of his governance, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE has been committed to and has taken action to boost the mining sector in Burkina Faso. Following the recovery of certain mining sites to be entrusted to trusted entities and the development of an adequate legal framework, the mining sector is now in its development phase.
This process involves organization, restructuring, and the establishment of local mineral processing plants. For example, we can mention the construction of the first gold refinery and the establishment of a plant for processing mining residues.
Today, under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim TRAORE’s government, Burkina Faso aims to revolutionize the artisanal mining sector. Already, on Monday, March 18, the government inaugurated the Mutualized Gold Ore Processing Center in Meguet, a locality located in the Ganzourgou province, in the Plateau-Central region of Burkina Faso.
According to the government, the establishment of this pilot center aims to formalize and organize artisanal mining operations to improve their informal and precarious nature. It also aims to provide artisanal miners with a secure and equipped environment for the effective and efficient processing of gold ore while preserving the local ecosystem.
According to the Minister in charge of mines, the Mutualized Gold Ore Processing Center in Meguet is the first of ten that the government plans to inaugurate in 2024. Nearly 2000 artisanal miners in Meguet benefit from this pilot project, an initiative of the Burkinabe government and its partners.
