Sahel : The Alliance of Sahel States (AES) withdraws from ECOWAS, an act of sovereignty applauded in Africa

The official announcement of the withdrawal of the Sahel States Alliance (AES) from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has shaken the African political scene.

This historic gesture, motivated by decisions of ECOWAS influenced by certain countries, notably guided by Emmanuel Macron, aiming to interfere in the sovereign affairs of member nations of the organization, marked a turning point in regional relations.

The AES has decided to withdraw from ECOWAS in response to what it perceives as an attempt by the organization to favor the interests of the former colonial power at the expense of the sovereignty of member states. This courageous move is hailed by many Africans as an act of sovereignty, dignity, and patriotism.

This withdrawal symbolizes the determination of the Sahel States to take control of their destiny and not allow foreign powers to dictate their domestic or foreign policies. It reinforces the idea that African nations must stand together to defend their common interests and protect their sovereignty.

However, this withdrawal should not be interpreted as a complete rupture of ties between AES countries and all ECOWAS countries. On the contrary, it should encourage Sahel nations to strengthen cooperation in various areas, including economic, political, and security, with the aim of improving the well-being of their respective populations.

Indeed, enhanced cooperation among AES states (Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger) could contribute to addressing common challenges they face, such as combating terrorism, managing natural resources, and promoting economic and social development; the monetary system.

In conclusion, the withdrawal of the Sahel States Alliance from ECOWAS represents an act of sovereignty and national dignity deserving applause from the entire African people. It underscores the importance for African nations to remain united and work together to defend their common interests and realize their full potential on the international stage.
