Burkina Faso : Levy of 1% of salaries, people say thank you to officials for patriotic momentum

President Traoré has once again decided to forgo his salary as Head of State and retain the salary of a military officer. Additionally, it has been decided to renew the 5% deduction from the salaries of government members and impose a 1% deduction on the salaries of public and private sector employees as a contribution to the peace effort. These deductions will contribute to the Patriotic Support Fund.

At the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, the Burkinabe people are increasingly mobilizing to support President Ibrahim Traoré’s new initiative aimed at intensifying the fight against terrorism. In this crucial year for the country, the Head of State has made further important decisions to accelerate the process of reclaiming the entirety of the national territory.

The Burkinabe people take pride in the civil servants who have willingly accepted the 1% deduction from their salaries and commend them for this patriotic gesture. Furthermore, they express support for the government’s efforts to restore peace and security in the country, encouraging it to do more and continue in this direction.

As for the civil servants who have accepted the government’s decision, they believe that this deduction should be made without the need for their consent, as they too are part of the state. The state, as the guarantor of peace and security for all, must make sacrifices to achieve these goals.

It is, therefore, reasonable and imperative for civil servants to contribute to the peace effort. This contribution aims, on the one hand, to improve the living conditions of the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) and, on the other hand, to provide the army with new, state-of-the-art war equipment in large quantities. The ultimate goal is to complete what was initiated a year ago – the fight against terrorism.
