Niger: 2024 Budget Over 2.600 Billion Adopted by Government

The President of the Transition, Head of State, General Abdourahamane TIANI signed on Thursday, January 4, 2024, an order introducing finance law, 2024 Budget estimated at two thousand six hundred and fifty billion four hundred and forty million six hundred and forty-three thousand eight hundred and fifty CFA francs (2.653.440.643.850 CFA francs).

This 2024 Budget has been developed following discussions between the Ministry of Finance and various sectoral ministries. It takes into account, according to the information available, the priorities of the state as well as the economic context at the national, regional, and international levels, which has been changing in recent years due to various conflicts or socio-political and diplomatic crises.

The goal of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Fatherland (CNSP) is not only to revive the economy and increase the purchasing power of the Nigerien population but also to address security challenges and, most importantly, to honor its commitment within the Alliance of the Sahel States (AES), which advocates for synergy of action in defense and socio-economic development.

To this end, sectors of economic and social development that directly contribute to improving the living conditions of citizens receive 59% of the budgetary allocations. This reflects the government’s commitment to alleviate the hardships faced by the Nigerien population. The CNSP is embarking on a new dynamic of endogenous development through the financing of well-identified priority projects.

These expenditures are estimated at 476.96 billion in 2024, compared to 257.68 billion in 2023. As for salaries and wages, they increase by 17.97 billion to reach 363.90 billion in 2024. This evolution takes into account the government’s planned recruitment program in priority sectors, particularly education and health.
