TOGO : The Plateaux Region will have its University in 2024
In the perspective of the Togolese government to provide each region with a university, the University of Datcha will be constructed in 2024 in the Plateaux region. The authorities also announce, on the same occasion, the continuation of the relocation project for the University of Kara in the Kara Region, in the northern part of the country.
The year 2024 will be marked by the construction of the University of Datcha for the Plateaux region and the continuation of the relocation project for the University of Kara as part of the regional development and strengthening of educational infrastructure policy initiated by the Head of State, His Excellency Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé.
These projects were revealed during the vote on the 2024 Budget by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Sani Yaya, at the Council of Ministers on December 22. The objective of these achievements is to « strengthen access to higher education throughout the country and promote the balanced development of each region ».
« This step marks a major advance in the realization of a long-term vision for higher education in Togo. The construction of new universities in each region, initiated from 2024, represents the first phase of this major project, with a significant investment planned in the 2024 budget, amounting to 2179 billion FCFA », Minister Yaya explained. They will also help revitalize higher education and promote regional development.
This declaration comes three months after the examination and adoption of a decree establishing the University of Datcha in the Plateaux region, demonstrating the speed with which the government transforms its vision into concrete actions.
In Kara, the relocation project of the University, initiated with the laying of the foundation stone in April 2023 by President Faure Gnassingbé, is expected to take a new dimension in 2024 with the progress of construction work on the new campus in Pya.
