Girona upsets Barcelona in La Liga Showdown, claims top spot with 4-2 victory

In a crucial clash during the 16th round of La Liga, Barcelona faced Girona  FC at the Olympico Montjuic Stadium. Despite Barcelona initially controlling the game, Girona took the lead with a swift counter-attack, as Dovbyk scored in the 12th minute.

Barcelona quickly responded with Lewandowski’s header, leveling the score at 1-1 in the 19th minute.

Girona capitalized on Barcelona’s brief struggle, with Gutiérrez scoring in the 40th minute to make it 2-1 at halftime.

In the second half, Barcelona intensified their efforts, but Gazzaniga’s saves denied De Jong, Gundogan, and Raphinha.

Girona secured the victory with Fernandez’s goal in the 80th minute, making it 3-1.

Although Gundogan pulled one back in injury time (90+2′), Girona maintained control, adding another goal through Stuani (90+4′).

The win propelled Girona FC to the top of La Liga, surpassing Real Madrid, while Barcelona’s poor performance left them trailing by 7 points in the title race.
