Togo: This commitment by President Faure Gnassingbé, which underpins his policy of national reconciliation

Years ago, President Faure Gnassingbé of the Togolese Republic initiated a compensation process to soothe the hearts of the Togolese people who endured socio-political violence from 1958 to 2005.

This commitment by President Faure Gnassingbé aligns with his policy of national reconciliation and socio-economic development.

In 2008, the Office of the High Commissioner for Reconciliation and the Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) was established in Togo to facilitate national reconciliation.

The HCRRUN continues its mission in the central region of Togo from November 27 to 29 for a compensation operation, involving 424 victims.

The process includes identity checks, photography sessions, discussions with a bailiff and psychologist, followed by the distribution of compensation cheques.

This compensation operation is part of the HCRRUN’s reparation programme, symbolizing the Togolese State’s acknowledgment of the victims of socio-political unrest between 1958 and 2005.

President Faure Gnassingbé, through this initiative, calls on his compatriots to foster love, forgiveness, and unity to promote comprehensive reconciliation.
