Algeria: Finance Law 2024, the government announces major measures for the healthcare sector

The provisions concern salary increases for healthcare workers and the implementation of a financial allocation. According to the Algerian Minister of Health, Population, and Hospital Reform, Abdelhak Saihi, there will be a 45% increase that will come into effect starting in the year 2024.

The 2024 budget law includes regularization of salary increases and a 45% raise for employees, based on career advancement. For the financial allocation, the Algerian government has allocated a budget of 848 billion dinars.

Significant reforms in the healthcare sector are announced for 2024. Besides these increases, the Algerian government plans to provide health coverage for rural areas. As per the established action plan, an allocation of 238 billion dinars will be devoted to prevention, 17 billion dinars for training, and 551 billion for general administration and management of hospital centers, as well as for purchasing medicines.

Other initiatives such as bolstering the budget of the central pharmacy with 145 billion dinars, improving and enhancing accessibility to healthcare for Algerians with 45 billion dinars, and financing the national vaccination campaign with 36 billion, are outlined in the 2023 finance law.

It should be noted that an allocation of 19 billion dinars will also be provided to the Institut Pasteur.
