DR Congo: Félix Tshisekedi asks the Congolese for a second chance

While he was supposed to launch his election campaign on Sunday at the Martyrs Stadium, the incumbent president, Félix Tshisekedi, first paid tribute at the mausoleum of his late father, Etienne Tshisekedi Wa Mulumba. Accompanied by his wife, he received the blessing of his mother, Marthe Kasulu, also present at the location.

At the Martyrs Stadium, Félix Tshisekedi invited the population to grant him a second chance by offering him a second term to be able to finish what he has started. ‘If you trust me, you will be happy; trust me again, and you will see that we will build our country together,’ said the candidate number 20, a candidate of the Sacred Union of the Nation.

Is Félix Tshisekedi considering harnessing the various resources of his country for profit? ‘Our goal is to start local production because our agriculture has the potential to feed all Congolese, and we do not need to buy maize, cassava, or rice flour from abroad,’ he promises.

It should be noted that several advancements have been made since Félix Tshisekedi took office in 2018.

Politically, he has implemented Article 43 of the Constitution, which guarantees free primary education in all public schools. More than 4,000 children have returned to school. This measure aims to relieve many parents who were previously unable to send their children to school.

Economically, over 30,000 kilometers of national and urban roads have been built across the Democratic Republic of Congo, marking a significant advancement in the road infrastructure sector during his tenure leading the country.

Regarding Félix Tshisekedi’s achievements in the health sector, several health facilities have been built and others renovated. More than 1,000 well-equipped health centers have been constructed as part of the development program for 145 territories, among others. Recently, authorities launched free childbirth services for the Kinshasa province. After the capital, the South Kivu province is next to benefit from this program. The ultimate goal is to achieve universal health coverage, a priority for President Félix Tshisekedi.

Félix Tshisekedi is facing 25 other candidates in this presidential election scheduled for December 20. Given the divided opposition, he is widely favored according to several polls.
