Niger/political crisis: Acceptance of the Algerian Mediation, information denied by the Nigerien government

In a statement, the Ministry in charge of Nigerien diplomacy said to be surprised by the publication of a communiqué of the Algerian government, dated October 02, 2023, and which makes a case of acceptance, by the Nigerien military authorities of the mediation of Algeria for a political solution in Niger.

A false information that was relayed Monday, October 02, on social networks and on some media, and was even controversial. According to the unsigned communiqué of Algeria, the notification of an acceptance of the Algerian mediation was made by the ministry in charge of diplomacy of Niger. The latter rejected these comments.

The head of Nigerien diplomacy also notified in his statement that during a meeting with his Algerian counterpart on September 25 in New York, he had expressed the readiness of the Nigerien authorities to examine the offer of mediation of Algeria, as a contribution of a way out of the Nigerien crisis.

However, this position of the Nigerien diplomat remains a singular expression given the bonds of friendship and fraternity that exist between the two neighboring countries and their peoples. He added that it is up to the living forces of the nation, through the National Inclusive Forum, to decide on the duration of the transition and the measures to be taken for a change in the governance of the country.

The Nigerien government has by the occasion reiterated the preservation of the ties of friendship and fraternity with the Algerian Republic, in the general interest of both peoples.
