Football/European Champions League: A Spot Soon for a Saudi Club and its Stars?

In addition to orchestrating an extravagant transfer window, Saudi Arabia is now setting its sights on the European Champions League. The country is eager to see the Saudi league champion take part in the prestigious C1 tournament.

Could we witness a showdown between Karim Benzema’s Al-Ittihad and Real Madrid? Or perhaps a clash between Neymar’s Al-Hilal and Kylian Mbappé’s PSG? While these scenarios may seem far-fetched today, they could become a reality tomorrow.

According to “Corriere dello Sport”, Saudi Arabia is actively pursuing a place in the Champions League.

Saudi Arabia Aims for a Spot by 2024

The nation has set its sights on securing a wild-card entry for the 2024-2025 edition of the European Champions League, enabling the Saudi champion to earn qualification for the group stages of the Champions League.

However, the outcome of this endeavor remains uncertain.

While Saudi Arabia boasts considerable geopolitical and financial influence that could potentially enforce its desires, it is still a member of the AFC (Asian Football Confederation), while the C1 is organized by UEFA.

At present, the top two teams from the Saudi Pro League qualify for the Asian Elite Champions League.
