Burkina Faso / Anti-terrorist operation in Diougo Yourga: 40 terrorists neutralized, five heroic policemen sacrificed

Diougo Yourga, Koulpelogo, Centre-Est, an anti-terrorist operation led by the 7th Grouping of Mobile Intervention Units(GUMI) of the National Police led to the neutralization of at least 40 terrorists in the locality of Diougo Yourga, Koulpélogo province, Centre-Est region, this Saturday, August 19, 2023. However, the operation was not without sacrifice, leaving five brave policemen to lose their lives.

The tragic incident occurred in broad daylight as the GUMI unit was conducting a reconnaissance mission in the area. A group of terrorists engaged the security forces in a violent confrontation, costing the lives of five policemen. Four other policemen were wounded in the operation and were quickly evacuated for medical treatment.

In a bold response, the security forces succeeded in neutralizing at least 40 terrorists and seized a large quantity of equipment used by the attackers. Sweep operations were immediately launched to further secure the area.

The Chief of the Armed Forces General Staff expressed his sincere condolences to the brave police officers who gave their lives to defend the homeland. He also wished a speedy recovery to the injured officers, praising their courage and dedication to national security.

In an official press release, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces congratulated the National Police for their unwavering commitment and determination in the ongoing operation to reconquer the territory from terrorist groups.

This operation bears witness to the resolute commitment of the country’s fighting forces to combating terrorism and guaranteeing the security of its citizens. The authorities have promised to continue their efforts to eradicate the terrorist threat in the region and throughout the country.
