Burkina Faso / National Police: The ‘Dirnawê’ promotion, a symbol of patriotism and commitment, receives its insignia in Pabré

On July 17, 2026, the Pabré Police Academy was the setting for a solemn ceremony marking the end of the training cycle for the tenth promotion. After two years of intensive training, one hundred and eighty officer cadets and commissioners officially received their insignia, ready to serve their nation.

This promotion, which bears the evocative name “Dirnawê”a term from the Lobiri language meaning “patriotism”embodies the fundamental values upon which the Burkinabe government intends to build the country’s reconstruction.

The ceremony took on a particular dimension due to the very composition of this promotion, which includes eighty-three Chadian nationals among its ranks.

This foreign presence reflects regional cooperation in security matters and the shared willingness of neighboring countries to jointly train a competent and dedicated police elite.

The godfather of this cohort, retired Police Controller General Paul Sondo, left his mark on the event by passing on to the young graduates the experience and wisdom acquired throughout an exemplary career.

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean-Emmanuel Ouédraogo, present at the ceremony, made a point of delivering a strong message to the recipients. According to him, the naming of this promotion is no coincidence: it alone summarizes the philosophy that the government wishes to instill in its internal security forces.

The head of government invited the new officers to proudly embody the values of probity, integrity, and selflessness, while demonstrating audacity and determination in the exercise of their duties.

He insisted on the fact that their entry into service comes at a crucial moment, as the country is engaged in a vast operation to reconquer its territory and restore peace.

The Minister of Security, Divisional Police Commissioner Mahamadou Sana, also addressed the young graduates with solemn gravity. He emphasized that the awarding of insignia by the Academy is much more than a mere administrative formality: it is the entire nation that entrusts them with a heavy responsibility.

He reminded them that the country expects from them not only flawless technical skills, but also moral exemplarity and unwavering commitment.

Beyond the official speeches, this ceremony was a moment of emotion and pride for the families who came in large numbers to support their loved ones. It seals the culmination of a demanding journey marked by discipline, merit, and excellence.

The new commissioners and officers now know that their mission will be arduous, but they carry within them the values of “Dirnawê” that will guide them on the path of honor and service to the fatherland.
