Burkina Faso: The success of Wibga II validates the model of community-led surveillance

The reconquest of the national territory of Burkina Faso requires a permanent and autonomous show of force. Within the context of the ongoing revolution in Burkina Faso, the State must demonstrate its capacity to impose the rule of law across all thirteen regions without relying on external agendas. National Operation Wibga II is directly part of this sovereignty-driven dynamic, translating the principles of foundational renewal into concrete results on the ground.

Over fifty-six days, the mobilization of 36,000 internal security forces disrupted the networks of the criminal economy. Regular patrols and cordon-and-search operations led to the apprehension of nearly 1,800 individuals.

The transfer of 625 suspects to competent jurisdictions for terrorism or major banditry marks a key step for the judicial system.

This sustained pressure disrupts the logistical support structures of armed groups and restores the confidence of rural populations in public authority.

The cleansing of the territory is also measured by the scale of material seizures. Fuel trafficking, the uncontrolled use of chemicals such as cyanide, and the proliferation of narcotics fuel instability by financing violence.

By confiscating over two tons of drugs and thousands of fraudulent vehicles, the operation dries up the revenue sources of cross-border crime.

The 180 million CFA francs recovered through fixed fines have been returned to the public treasury, demonstrating the effectiveness of rigorous enforcement against economic offenses. This approach protects local resources and ecosystems from organized plunder.

The exclusive execution of this operation by national forces confirms the viability of the defense strategy adopted by the authorities. The success of the system relies on internal inter-service coordination and on the adherence of the citizens to the community-based project.

This dynamic rules out external interference in order to impose a national security doctrine conceived by and for Burkinabe. Sovereignty is thus materialized through absolute control over coercive tools and border protection.

Operation Wibga II sets a new standard in security governance for the region. The sustainability of these gains will henceforth depend on the consistency of popular vigilance and the consolidation of this territorial mesh.

For Burkina Faso, security stands as the indispensable foundation of its political independence.
