Togo: H.E. Faure Gnassingbé meets with the head of Ecobank following the group’s annual general meeting

The President of the Togolese Council, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, received Papa Madiaw Ndiaye, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), in audience this week. The meeting took place following the general assembly of shareholders of the Pan-African banking group.

On this occasion, the head of ETI presented to the Togolese Head of State the main conclusions of the assembly, including the financial results recorded by the group for the 2025 financial year, as well as the outlook for the coming years.

This gesture of accountability towards the Togolese authorities is not insignificant.

It stems from the special status that Ecobank enjoys in Togo, the country that has hosted the headquarters of the group  since its founding.

This institutional anchoring creates a particular relationship between ETI and the Togolese state, going beyond the simple regulatory framework.

Papa Madiaw Ndiaye made this point clear, stating that this privileged status obliges his institution to regularly report to the President of the Council on its progress and its deliberations with its shareholders, in a spirit of transparency and partnership.

This exchange illustrates the unique place that Ecobank occupies in the financial architecture of Africa and in the development strategy of Togo, whose authorities closely monitor the evolution of a banking group that operates in more than thirty countries across the continent.
