Burkina Faso: When the country of upright people urges ECOWAS to turn towards the deep aspirations of the peoples.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabes Abroad, Her Excellency Mrs. Olivia ROUAMBA, presided over the joint commemorative ceremony of the sixtieth Africa Day and the forty-eighth anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

This commemoration, held under the theme «accelerating the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area», is part of the dynamic promotion of an integrated and economically prosperous space, emphasized the Director-General of African Integration (DGIA, in French), Mrs. Bernadette Marie Conrad TAPSOBA.

Present at this ceremony, the Permanent Representative of ECOWAS in Burkina Faso, Mr. Tiéna COULIBALY, praised the commitment of the country of upright people, which, despite the current difficulties, has remained the “model country” it has always been.

«The multidimensional crisis faced by Burkina Faso calls for a people-centered and solidarity-focused ECOWAS The institution I represent therefore expresses its compassion and support to the ongoing transition in Burkina Faso», said Mr. COULIBALY.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, in turn, called for unity among Africans in general and among member countries of ECOWAS in particular because «strength lies in unity».

She regrets that «internal divisions, selfish interests that undermine the aspirations of the people, lack of solidarity towards countries in difficulty, external influences on the functioning and decisions made are all ills that undermine ECOWAS and fuel its rejection by citizens, especially the youth».

Minister ROUAMBA then invited ECOWAS to take concrete actions, committed to the deep aspirations of the peoples.

It is worth noting that, on the occasion of this joint commemoration, the winning students of the ECOWAS oratory art competition received their rewards.
