Football/ Sadio Mané fires Senegal into AFCON Final
A late strike from Sadio Mané propelled Senegal into the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Egypt in Tangier.
The closely contested semi-final saw Egypt defend deeply for much of the match, frustrating a Senegal side that controlled possession but struggled to create clear chances.
The first half’s major incident was a yellow card to Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly, which rules him out of the final, before he was substituted injured shortly after.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 78th minute. Mané received the ball on the edge of the box and expertly placed a low shot inside the post, beyond the reach of goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.
Egypt offered minimal threat in response, registering their only shot on target deep into stoppage time.
The victory secures the place of Senegal in their third AFCON final in the last four tournaments, as they await the winner of the second semi-final between Morocco and Nigeria.
