Cameroon denies baseless rumors of secret negotiations with opposition figure
Cameroon- In recent days, sensationalist claims have surfaced on Cameroonian television, alleging that the government has engaged in secret negotiations with Issa Tchiroma Bakary, an unsuccessful candidate in the October 12, 2025 presidential election. This rumor is entirely unfounded and appears designed to manipulate public opinion rather than inform it.
In reality, no such negotiations have taken place not before, during, or after the election. The institutions of the Republic have functioned according to established rules, and the electoral process unfolded within the legal framework.
The proclaimed results reflect the will of the ballot box, not backroom dealings.
These false allegations reveal an alarming trend among certain political figures desperate for media attention. Rather than contributing to peace and stability, they seek to sow confusion and distrust among citizens.
This strategy of rumor and misinformation weakens national cohesion and undermines the credibility of public discourse.
It is time for the public to exercise discernment and reject such manipulation. Political debate cannot thrive in an environment saturated with lies.
Political leaders have a moral duty to elevate public discourse, offering constructive ideas rather than unfounded accusations.
Cameroon today needs serenity and truth to move forward. Economic, social, and security challenges require unity and responsibility from all actors. Fueling baseless controversies only distracts from the nation’s real priorities.
In the face of disinformation, the media and civil society must exercise heightened vigilance, verifying facts before disseminating any claims.
Politics should not be a theater of illusions, but a space for truth in service of the people.
