Niger-Italy: A strategic partnership for peace, security and prosperity

On Thursday, October 30, 2025, the Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, of Niger, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, met with a high-level Italian delegation led by the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani. The working session aimed to strengthen bilateral friendship and cooperation, with discussions also covering the security situation in the Sahel.

Following the talks, Minister Tajani praised the existing partnership, emphasizing Niger’s strategic importance to Italy. “Niger is a friendly country. We want to work more with it in all areas, including military cooperation, agriculture, industry, and investments from Italian companies,” he stated.

The Italian diplomat underscored the need for mutually beneficial agreements focused on raw material transformation, job creation, and stimulating economic growth.

He also affirmed a shared commitment to “strengthen cooperation in the fight against terrorism, a major challenge for regional stability.”

Tajani characterized the visit as a strategic mission and a decisive turning point, declaring it “not a formal mission, but the beginning of a new season of even stronger relations between Italy and Niger.”

The meeting, attended by several Nigerien government officials and the Italian Ambassador, marks a significant step in consolidating the bilateral relationship between Niamey and Rome, founded on solidarity, security, and shared development.
