Football/ Ghana’s world cup berth triggers Amuzu’s allegiance switch

Following Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the winger Francis Amuzu has publicly declared his desire to play for the Black Stars. The 26-year-old, who previously represented Belgium at youth levels, is now eagerly awaiting a call-up from his nation of birth.
Francis Amuzu, who currently plays for Brazilian club Grêmio, was born in Accra. He had turned down Ghana in the past, but the World Cup qualification has shifted his perspective.
“To be honest, at the moment my heart is really with Ghana. If Ghana comes, for sure I will go,” Amuzu stated. He expressed happiness about Ghana’s qualification for the “biggest tournament in the world.”
While focusing on his club duties for now, Amuzu’s announcement highlights a growing trend.
Since securing their World Cup spot, Ghana has become an attractive destination for several foreign-based players considering an international allegiance switch, with Amuzu being one of the most prominent names.
